Yushin Dojo — a karate school website built to rank locally
A new traditional Japanese karate school in Cape Coral, Florida needed a site that felt as rooted as the art it teaches, loaded instantly on a phone in a parking lot, and could compete with dojos that had a decade's head start in local search.

The brief
Sensei Kenneth Jenkins opened Yushin Dojo in 2026 to teach Inoue-ha Shitō-ryū karate and Okinawan kobudō. The school had a strong Google Business Profile and an active social following, but no website, and the established dojo down the same road owned the search results for karate in Cape Coral. The site had to tell the lineage story properly, make it easy to book a free first class, and give Google every reason to connect it to the business listing.
What we built
- A static site on Cloudflare Pages. Plain HTML and CSS, no framework, served from the edge. The home page responds in about a tenth of a second and weighs under 40 KB before images.
- A lineage page tracing the line from Soke Teruo Hayashi through Soke Yoshimi Inoue and Kyoshi Julio Martinez to the dojo's founder, with archival photos and rank histories.
- A pricing page that mirrors the school's membership system, so tuition, billing options and the registration fee are public and the enrollment link goes straight to checkout.
- A serverless contact form. A Cloudflare Pages Function validates the submission, screens for bots with a honeypot, and delivers it by email through Resend. When delivery fails, the form says so and shows the phone number instead of pretending it sent.
- Video, gallery and schedule sections with the school's own footage and photos, cropped and named for search.
Local SEO
Being found was the actual goal, so the build treated search as a feature rather than an afterthought.
- Structured data. LocalBusiness, Person and WebSite schema on the home page, breadcrumb and Offer schema on inner pages, all keyed to the same identifiers.
- Listing alignment. Name, address and phone written identically on the site, in the schema and on the Google Business Profile, with the profile and every social account declared as the same entity.
- Keyword-bearing titles and headings in the spelling people actually type, since the stylised brand name with accent marks was invisible to search as written.
- The plumbing. Sitemap, robots file, a real 404 page, canonical tags, www-to-root and secondary-domain redirects, and a versioned stylesheet so returning visitors never see stale styles.
- Reviews surfaced. The school's five-star Google rating appears in the hero and the contact section, linking to the listing.
Outcome
The site scored 93% on an independent on-page SEO audit within days of launch, with the remaining gap entirely in off-site backlinks that the school is now building through local directories and its governing bodies. Everything the dojo needs to update, from tuition to hours, is documented in the repository so it can be changed in minutes.
